The NEEM Story
In India, NEEM is a very common and a very important tree. It is considered to be the “village pharmacy” and has played a key role in medicine and agriculture since time immemorial. It is a large evergreen tree growing 10 to 11 meters tall. The tree bears small white flowers in auxiliary bunches and 1.5 to 2 cm long green or yellow fruits with a seed in each. The seeds contain substantial amount of essential oil known as Neem oil. 
The healing powers and curative properties of the Neem tree is generally considered to be an air purifier and a preventive against malarial fever and cholera Indeed, all parts of the tree possess medicinal properties. The leaves are useful in promoting the removal of catarrhal matter and phlegm from the bronchial tubes, and in increasing secretion and discharge of urine. They also act as an insecticide. The bark is a bitter tonic and stimulant. The root bark has the same properties as the bark of the trunk. The gum discharged by the stem is a stimulant and tonic with a soothing effect on the skin and mucous membranes. 
Formulations made of Neem oil also find wide usage as a bio-pesticide for organic farming, as it repels a wide variety of pests including the mealy bug, aphids, whiteflies, mites, beetles, moth larvae, bed bugs and caterpillars. Neem Oil is not known to be harmful to mammals, birds or humans, and is beneficial to some insects such as earthworms, butterflies, honeybees and ladybirds. 
It can be used as a household pesticide for bed bugs, ant, cockroach, housefly, snails, termites and mosquitoes, Neem oil also controls black spot and powdery mildew.
Probably the most important of the commercial usage of Neem and a testament to its safety is in medicines and cosmetics. Neem is widely used in cosmetics; usage includes soaps, beauty creams and toothpaste.
